SUGIWORKS

Sugiworks is dedicated to presenting the works by the Los Angeles based interdisciplinary artist Jeffrey Sugishita (b. 1998, Los Angeles, California). Sugishita's discipline ensues the exploration of the material world and examining the crossing pathways between the materiality and immateriality of this universe. Sugishita's discipline is deeply rooted in the empirical experiences held within the immediate natural and technological environments; the visuals of the extraordinary speaks not primarily of the feelings towards the speculative world outside of ours, but rather is a dedicated perceptual intervention to our everyday surroundings- which inherently is imbued with the infinite wonders of the greater sublime. Sugishita's works are odes, prayers, love letters to the world- ever so enveloped in its divine benevolence.

GALAXY 1001

November 8 - November 26, 2025

A two-person exhibition by Los Angeles-based artist Jeffrey Sugishita and Jean-Paul Miller will be held at Neo LA Gallery. The two met each other in 2023, and have since then become contemporaries that frequently exchange ideologies over their interdisciplinary practice and outlook on the world. This exhibition is their first collaboration on realizing a curated installation of their works, which embodies Sugishita and Miller’s shared focus on examining the crossing pathways between the materiality and immateriality of this universe.

Loss from the Eaton Canyon Fire

On 1/08/2025, the wildfire consumed my house and along with it my studio space, machinery, tools, materials, and an estimate of 500+ artworks that I've made up till now. What managed to survive are 20 or so works and a bag of tools- I could say a mere 5% of what I've accumulated at the house over the years.

With my work space and living space I put so much effort into building the past four years reduced to a pile of rubble and dust, I was left speechless with the reality I was facing.

However, I wasn't letting everything go down in ashes for nothing. 30 minutes after discovering my house entirely gone, with what was once my room still ablaze in the heat, I switched my mentality and started documenting my burning house with the few works that survived. Because that’s what I do. I create. Every thing can be taken from me but the creativity that resides at the core of my existence will never perish for long as I remain alive. I will continue forward while cherishing what I have left within me- the utter joy of living in this material world and getting to experience it with the entirety of my existence.
